Police are looking for a second pitbull after an attack in Nicosia on Sunday when a pitbull bit a 10-year-old girl, a 55-year-old woman and fatally injured a small dog.

Officers have since been on the hunt to find a dog that fits the description eyewitnesses gave – a brown pitbull with a white neck.

On Monday, police said one pitbull had been found roaming the Ayios Dometios area, which has a microchip. The owner is currently abroad and had given the dog to a relative to look after.

The mum of the 10-year-old girl identified the dog as the one that had attacked her child, however the 55-year-old woman believes it is not the same dog.

Police are now scouring the area, calling on the public to inform officers if a stray dog that fits the description is seen. The owner of the pitbull that has been found is set to return to Cyprus on Tuesday.

On Sunday, the 10-year-old girl’s mum, aged 34, reported to police that while walking along Andreas Demetriou Street in Ayios Dometios, they were attacked by a stray dog.

The dog allegedly attacked the 10-year-old on the arm and fatally wounded the family’s small dog. A 55-year-old woman who was at the scene, intervened to help, resulting in her also being bitten on the arm.

The 34-year-old took the child to a private hospital where she was given first aid and discharged. The 55-year-old woman went to Nicosia general hospital, where she received first aid treatment before being discharged.
