Teams built amazing solutions for improving life in Cyprus and the AdTech industry

A few months ago I saw board ads in downtown Limassol advertising an open hackathon by AdTech Holding. Immediately I got curious. I love hackathons and in the past, I organised a few myself.

Usually, you don’t see ads in the streets advertising this kind of event. Kudos to AdTech Holding for investing so many resources in a grassroots tech event that helped to create more startups on the island.

The AdTech people were awesome and they invited me to be one of the judges. HackAdTech Open Hackathon was one of the most well-organised hackathons I have attended globally.

Due to some other trip, I arrived at the hackathon on the second day. The vibe was amazing. Men and women coding. Others practise their pitch for the final DemoFest. Some eating and discussing tech. It was a hackathon in one of the most luxurious hotels in Limassol. A hotel with amazing views and food.

The AdTech people were so welcoming and made my day an experience to remember. Around 3:30pm the CEO of AdTech Holding Alex Vasekin arrived. We prepared a video interview with interesting insights. Stay tuned via our YouTube Channel.

The DemoFest started around 16.30 and 19 teams pitched their prototype solutions for 5 minutes each. The teams have built from prototype crowdfunding events platform, messengers that connects people who are looking for products, healthcare prototypes, blockchain and crypto projects utilising networks like polkadot, interactive maps of events in Cyprus, innovative contextual advertising methods in chat messages, tools for retention marketing utilising blockchain, advertising addons, recommendation algorithms, tools that automate text and advertising creatives. A team built an interesting support solution for the new trademark Cyprus Made that the government recently launched.

The jury team reviewed some high-quality AdTech and MarTech projects with global potential. It was interesting that most of the people were senior programmers and not students like in other hackathons.

This shows that age is just a number when you are a tech entrepreneur and that is the best time for someone to try entrepreneurship. According to statistics, more mature first-time entrepreneurs have more chances in building a successful startup.

When the pitches finished the Jury team left the room. The Jury team consisted of the CEO at AdTech Holding Alex Vasekin, the general manager of TechIsland Marios Giorgoudis, the investment manager of Exerte Partners Agni Photiou, the CRO at AdTech Holding Olga Dmitrenko, the Head of R&D Sergey Kozlov and Panis Pieri.
