A 30-year-old woman who was caught at Larnaca airport with 6.5 kilos of cannabis in her luggage was remanded for eight days on Thursday.

Larnaca district court issued the remand for the woman after she was arrested at Larnaca airport on Wednesday following a tip-off to the drug squad that she was carrying illegal substances.

The woman, who had arrived at the airport from Greece around 3pm, was stopped for a check by members of the customs department and the drug squad.

After checking her suitcase, they found – hidden in pillowcases – two plastic packages containing cannabis, weighing approximately 6.5 kilos.

Then, the woman allegedly threw her mobile phone on the ground and tried to break it.

Investigations continue to determine whether the woman was collaborating with others in Cyprus and/or Greece.
