5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche returns for a single performance

5 lesbians eating a quiche

It is 1956 and the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein is having its annual quiche breakfast. When the Communists threaten their picture-perfect town, five women are trapped in a church basement. Closet doors burst open, unleashing secrets, repressed desires and a ravenous hunger for… quiche.

In a nutshell, that is the premise of the play 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche, written by Andrew Hobgood and Evan Linder in 2014. It first premiered in Cyprus in December 2021 as part of the Yard.Residency.21 programme, holding 21 sold-out performances in Limassol and Nicosia. Last winter’s shows were the first time the play was presented in Greek, directed by Evita Ioannou. A year later, the play returns to the stage for a single, festive performance.

On Friday, actresses Nayia Anastasiadou, Elena Kallinikou, Loukia Pieridou, Niovi Charalambous and Yolanda Christodoulou bring the lesbian comedy to life. Hosted by Sessions at 6 Sapfous street, the performance will be an intimate show in the old town venue highlighting suppressed sexual desires and a curious, deep love for quiche.
