End-of-year gigs at Savino

Wrap up the year with music in Larnaca suggests ELENI PHILIPPOU

With just a week until we bid farewell to 2022, the island’s entertainment venues are in their final stretch of events. And in Larnaca, the rock music scene is alive and well largely thanks to Savino Live which organises weekly, but now almost daily shows. Within the last few days of 2022, seven music performances are taking place at the old town Larnaca venue, welcoming almost a dozen bands.

On Christmas Day, Savino will celebrate by welcoming Francois Micheletto and George Gregoriou Kinezos to the stage. Alongside the Coverdose band, six musicians will present a fully charged live amalgamation of English and Greek music performing well-known songs to rock and dance the night away.

The evening of Boxing Day will be filled with more live music in Greek and English as Michalis Kontovourkis and his band put on a wild Christmas birthday party overflowing with music, dance, gifts and surprises. “Prepare to be shaken and stirred as the talented seven-piece band rocks you through a set of Kontovourkis/McCowan originals,” say the organisers, “intermixed with much-loved grooves from the catalogue of golden Greek and Anglo-American hits. Stop this train, you’ll wanna get on!”

Wednesday will welcome three bands to the stage for a death metal show. Uncle Philth will open the show with their sludgy and groovy sound, with a special setlist of covers. Band En Psichro will bring the hardcore thunder for the night. The three-piece with a strong message and impactful lyrics are ready to rock audiences with their sound. Finally, Vomitile, the ‘titans of the Cyprus death metal scene’ with three full-length albums under their belt return for their first headlining show in three years to bring the crushing riffs and head-banging inducing grooves.

On the following evening, popular Cypriot band On Tour will return to Savino for another party night with beloved sing-along tunes and rock music and an opening set by Don Canyon featuring Joakem. To wrap up the season and another year dedicated to live rock music, Savino Live is hosting a New Year’s Eve party with the popular local band Fuse live on stage. The evening is described as an “explosive live rock extravaganza” and nothing less is expected.
