Cause of death of 10-month-old infant unknown

The immediate cause of death of a 10-month-old infant found dead by his mother on Christmas morning has not been identified following a post-mortem examination.

The autopsy, carried out by two forensic doctors was completed shortly before 10pm on Sunday but the exact cause of death remains unclear. Tissue samples were taken for further laboratory testing.

The infant was found unresponsive at 01.30am yesterday by his mother on the boat they were staying on in Larnaca.

Ambulance services rushed to the scene and transported the infant to the hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Larnaca police are continuing investigations.
