UN chief to recommend renewal of Unficyp mandate

The United Nations Security Council is to meet on January 30 to renew Unficyp’s mandate, according to the presidency of the council.

The announcement comes within the context of the circulation of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ unofficial report on the peacekeeping forces on the island.

According to diplomatic sources at the UN, Guterres is expected to recommend that the Security Council extend the mandate of the mission until July 31, 2023.
