The House Price Index registered an annual increase of 5.3 per cent during the third quarter of 2022, amounting to 112.51 points, according to a preliminary estimate released this week by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).

Moreover, compared to the second quarter of 2022, the House Price Index registered an increase of 5.8 per cent.

The House Price Index is a quarterly index that measures the change in the average price of residential property units.

It covers all types of residential units, both new and existing. The value of the land is included in the price used in the report.

The total number of registered vehicles in Cyprus fell by 2.7 per cent between January and December 2022, amounting to 33,795 vehicles, compared with 34,716 in the same period in 2021, according to a report released this week by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).

According to the report, passenger saloon car registrations fell by 0.1 per cent in 2022, dropping to 26,598, compared to 26,634 in 2021.

Of the total passenger saloon cars, 11,577, a share of 43.5 per cent, were new vehicles, while 15,021, a share of 56 .5 per cent were preowned. Rental cars in particular saw a 72.1 per cent increase, rising to 4,102.

Bus registrations rose to 85 between January and December 2022, from 51 in the same period in 2021, while freight vehicle registrations fell to 3,895, compared to 4,035 in 2021, dropping by 3.5 per cent.

The main suppliers of motor vehicles in Cyprus during 2022 were Japan, with a market share of 38.6 per cent, Germany with 13.3 per cent, France with 9.2 per cent, the United Kingdom with 5.4 per cent and South Korea with 4.9 per cent.

In December 2022, total motor vehicle registrations reached 2,211, a rise of 9.6 per cent from the figure of 2,018 in December 2021.

Saloon passenger car registrations increased by 8.2 per cent, rising to 1,696, up from 1,567 in December 2021.

Light trucks increased by 2.6 per cent to 3,151, while heavy trucks decreased by 17.8 per cent to 379.

Moped registrations, meaning motorcycles with an engine capacity below 50 cubic centimetres, fell to 244 between January and December 2022, compared to 246 in the same period in 2021.

Finally, registrations of motorcycles with an engine capacity exceeding 50 cubic centimetres fell by 21.8 per cent to 2,598, down from 3,324 in the same period in 2021.

The Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) ended Wednesday, January 11 with losses.

The general Cyprus Stock Market Index was at 92.07 points at 13:26 during the day, reflecting a drop of 0.16 per cent over the previous day of trading.

The FTSE / CySE 20 Index was at 55.53 points, representing a decrease of 0.19 per cent.

The total value of transactions came up to €30,745.

In terms of the sub-indexes, the main index fell by 0.32 per cent, while the alternative and investment firm indexes rose by 0.41 per cent and 0.74 per cent respectively. The hotel index remained unchanged.

The biggest investment interest was attracted by the Bank of Cyprus (-0.28 per cent), Hellenic Bank (-1.68 per cent), Demetra Holdings (+0.81 per cent), Logicom (+1.57 per cent), and Petrolina Holdings (+0.92 per cent).
