Nicosia’s Municipality Square will be renamed to Mayor Lellos Demetriades in honour of the late mayor who served in the post from 1971 until 2001.
The municipality also announced that the square in front of the old municipal market will be named in his honour, too, with both changes taking effect from January 18.
The move comes after the veteran mayor passed away in April 2022, at the age of 89.
