Electricity being sold to the north

Electricity has been sold daily to the Turkish Cypriot community through the interconnected power grid for the last few days, due to the problem that occurred at the power station in Trapeza, Kyrenia.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, on average 40 MW has been sold per day at the price of $.40 per kilowatt hour and the payment will be made on a weekly basis for as long as necessary.

On Saturday, the workers’ guild of the electricity authority in the north (El Sen) said it had asked the Republic to sell it electricity to meet its needs as it only had enough fuel left for three days.

On Sunday the deputy general manager of the El Sen Dalman Aydin confirmed the fuel level but said arrangements had been made to meet fuel demands until a ship arrives with more suppplies on Monday.

He also said the power outages had been large, but were not due to lack of fuel, rather faults in the grid.
