Cypriots feature prominently on UK rich list

The presence of Cypriots and Greeks in the Rich List of UK residents published by the Sunday Times is also strong this year.

In this year’s Rich List with 350 names in total, the first Cypriot name is Alkis David and the Leventis family (Coca-Cola HBC and media) in position 63, with an estimated fortune of almost £2.8 billion.

The Lazari family (real estate) ranks 72nd with a fortune of £2.5 billion.

In 74th place is John Christodoulou (real estate) with £2.45 billion, while in 75th comes the Greek tycoon of raw materials (Glencore) Telis Mistakidis with £2.42 billion. They have overtaken Virgin Group’s Sir Richard Branson, who has slipped to 77th place with £2.4bn.

Meanwhile, Greek-born investor Chris Rokos (Rokos Capital) ranks 86th with an estimated fortune of £2 billion. In 101st place is Sir Stelios Hajiioannou (easyJet) with £1.7 billion and at 251th place the Logothetis family (shipping, real estate, aviation, Libra Group).

In 286th place is the Zohonis family of the soap empire (PS Cussons) from Manchester, originally from Laconia, Greece.

It is noted that in 19th place is the Norwegian shipowner, John Fredriksen, with £8.3 billion, who has received Cypriot citizenship.

This year’s Sunday Times Rich List includes 171 billionaires, six fewer than last year. But their net worth is up compared to 2022, totalling £684 billion.

In a year of high inflation, a 4.5 per cent increase in the wealth of the UK’s wealthiest residents has been a major step forward.

At the top again is Indian-born Gopi Hinduja, an industrial, property, catering and finance tycoon with a fortune of £35 billion. His older brother Shri, with whom he shared the estate, died last week at the age of 87.
