Yes, you read that right. A scientific concert is coming to Nicosia this June. On June 7, the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation is hosting the first scientific concert titled Beyond the Melodies, which will be the first of its kind in Cyprus, aiming to open a window towards music interaction.

The uniqueness and fundamental principle of the scientific concert lie in the combination of live music performance and augmented reality, aiming to create an engaging and educational experience for the audience. Motion and muscular activity data from the musicians will be collected and analysed in real-time, while oral explanations will contribute to their understanding.

During the concert, the musician’s digital twin will be projected on a large screen, alongside a simultaneous presentation of the musculoskeletal parameters the musician experiences during the live performance.

The audience will enjoy a captivating live music performance while, through innovative interactive technologies, will gain a better understanding of the physical challenges that professional musicians undergo.

On stage will be Christos I Ioannou, the coordinator of the music. Dr Ioannou is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow and the head of the Neo-Move research team at the CYENS Centre of Excellence. Joining him on stage will be Cyprus Symphony Orchestra violinist Nikos Pittas, an award-winning musician with a passion for classical music. Also on stage will be pianist Nikolas Melis who has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in various countries abroad.

The evening’s repertoire will include music by Camille Saint-Saëns, Costas Cacoyannis, Marios Takoushis, Manuel de Falla, Stavros Lantsias, George Karvellos, Niccolò Paganini and Isaac Albéni. To make the performance possible, the concert has a supporting scientific team of individuals and team members of the CYENS Centre of Excellence which supports the project.
