The beaches of Argaka, Gialia and Pomos received a European award for quality, it was announced on Wednesday.

As a result, Paphos won the 2022-23 “European Silver Quality Coast” award and is included in the top 100 green destinations in Europe, the tourism development company (Etap) stated in the announcement.

Following a proposal by Etap, which embraced the European initiative in 2013, the institution has been expanded to cover the entire district’s coastline.

“With this award,” adds the announcement, “Paphos becomes even more famous for its unparalleled beauty, picturesque beaches and rich and rare flora in particular in the area of Polis Chrysochous and Neo Chorio, up to Pomos.”

To receive the European Silver Quality Coast award beaches must check off criteria relating to water cleanliness, biodiversity, air pollution and noise levels.

Etap also announced that Paphos features 18 ‘Blue Flag’ beaches. Argaka, Gialia and Pomos did not receive Blue Flag certification as previously reported.
