Two arrested trying to leave Cyprus with fake identities

Two asylum seekers have been arrested in separate incidents attempting to leave the island through Paphos airport with fake documentation, police said.

On June 23, at 4.45 pm, a person bound for Ireland presented a Seychelles passport, which was found to be fake.

When interrogated, the man, aged 36, confessed, police said. He was remanded for three days, so is due back in court on Monday.

On June 24 at 11.10am, a man aged 23, with a French identity card, attempted to board a flight to Cologne in Germany. His card was fake, according to police, and he was arrested.
