A Christmas market with a sustainable twist

re merry christmas cover 2

Christmas markets are starting to make an appearance and soon all corners of the island will welcome artists and their creations. Happening this weekend at Poseidonia Beach Hotel in Limassol is a festive market with a focus on the environment and sustainability.

The ‘RE-Merry Christmas: The Other Market’ on December 2 and 3 aims to celebrate the holiday season in a sustainable spirit. The market will exclusively feature ethical products and handcrafted items from over 40 local vendors. Each one has been carefully selected to align with the market’s sustainable values, assuring eco-friendly products and uniqueness.

“The hotel’s Green Committee,” says general manager Lydia Yazbeck, “has been working hard behind closed doors at Poseidonia and has now decided to take it a step further by reaching out to the community and organising a plastic free eco-conscious experience that redefines your Christmas shopping.”

The two-day event aims to reflect Poseidonia Beach Hotel’s journey towards sustainability by following its core principles, says Genia Boustany, unity, creativity, sustainability, innovation and social responsibility.

Apart from shopping from small businesses, the market will also include several educational workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions to spread the understanding of sustainability. A diverse programme of events will take place throughout the hotel from silk-making and zero-waste workshops to fresh pasta demonstrations and live music.

Choir performances, wine tasting, sustainable tourism presentations and mandolin performances will add to the market’s agenda, keeping visitors busy and entertained.
