An explosion rocked a tanker vessel transporting fuel off the coast of Famagusta in the north on Tuesday.

According to Turkish Cypriot reports, two individuals aboard the vessel, named Akasya, reported minor injuries.

The north’s coast guard promptly intervened and escorted the vessel to shore. The two injured individuals were transported to the nearest hospital for treatment.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown at this time, but sources indicate a work accident in the vessel’s engine room.
