The eight teenagers detained as suspects in the arson at a school in Strovolos are set to appear before the Nicosia district court on Wednesday as remand orders against them expire.

The teenagers, all students at the same school, will be charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, arson, and willful damage to property, among others.

They are all suspected of igniting the fire that engulfed the faculty room of the school, as well as vandalising the school premises.

Up to now, they have all steadfastly denied any involvement in the acts.

The incident took place last Friday, when, after midnight, officers received a call about a fire at the school.

Police and firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze, which damaged several classrooms.

Upon further investigation, police determined that several windows had also been broken, most likely from stones thrown at them.
