The Council of Ministers on Wednesday approved a budget of €25 million for the creation, modernisation, and digital upgrade of processing units for the marketing of agricultural products.

The plan is part of the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Plan, set to span from 2021 to 2026, and is designed to bolster existing and new small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Commerce minister Giorgos Papanastasiou highlighted an efficiency gain from the first tender, where approximately €3 million was saved and will be reinvested in this second tender, thereby extending the funding’s impact.

Importantly, the application process for this sponsorship is exclusively digital, and facilitated through the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry’s electronic system, ensuring a streamlined and accessible procedure for all potential beneficiaries.

Papanastasiou clarified that the programme is not limited to companies alone but is also open to cooperatives and beekeepers, showcasing the plan’s broad scope.
