Kindergarten fire blamed on ‘juvenile delinquency’

Police have said they believe a fire which broke out at a kindergarten in Nicosia’s old town on Friday night was an act of “juvenile delinquency”.

The fire broke out at around 10pm in the old town’s Faneromeni neighbourhood, with police saying the fire seems to have started from sheets of paper which were placed in front of the kindergarten’s wooden front door.

The fire brigade immediately made its way to the scene and put the fire out, preventing it from spreading inside the building.

The police and the fire brigade are now working together to identify the perpetrators and the exact circumstances under which the fire broke out.
