A 50-year-old man suspected of killing his 43-year-old brother-in-law in Peyia was released from Athalassa Psychiatric Hospital, rearrested and remanded for six days, police said on Saturday.

Police in Paphos said that after the 50-year-old was discharged from Athalassa, where he had been hospitalised since last week.

The force is investigating the premeditated murder of Stelios Stylianou from Peyia. The 50-year-old is the husband of his sister.

According to the evidence under investigation, around 10.40pm on July 3, police received a tip-off about shots fired at a house in Peyia.

Officers immediately went to the area, where inside the house they found the 43-year-old man dead.

Police added that Stylianou had been at a party at the home, where he was found dead. Stylianou was shot with a hunting rifle by his brother-in-law after the two had an argument.

The 50-year-old fled the scene and presented himself at Paphos general hospital a short time later with scratches on his legs and other injuries.

Police were informed and the man was arrested.

Authorities said that he admitted to the crime.

Following an eight-day remand issued last week, the suspect was admitted into Athalassa after undergoing a psychiatric examination.
