A 32-year old woman arrested on Sunday in Limassol in connection to a guns and drugs bust is appeared in court on Monday when she was remanded for seven days.
The case involves possession of a stash of 40kg of cannabis, two pistols, more than 2,000 pistol cartridges and a sum €12,400.
The Limassol drug squad (Ykan) carried out the first arrest on Saturday afternoon when at around 5pm officers intercepted a 36-year-old suspect’s car and found a number of the illegal items in his possession as well as keys to an apartment in Mesa Yitonia, reportedly owned by his 32-year-old sister.
In the course of a subsequent search at the apartment police found and confiscated six suitcases containing 38 kilos of cannabis, half a gram of cocaine, two pistols and 14 pistol cartridges, as well as two cardboard boxes containing 2,000 9mm calibre cartridges.
Police discovered the drugs, weapons and ammunition in a bedroom of the apartment, which was locked from the outside. When they asked the man if he had a key to the bedroom he answered negatively. However, police managed to find the key hidden above a curtain rod in the living room.
The man was re-arrested and brought before the Limassol district court, which issued an eight-day remand order. According to Philenews, he remains uncooperative.
In follow-up investigations, evidence against his 32-year-old sister emerged. A judicial arrest warrant was issued against her and she was taken into police custody at around 11pm on Sunday.
