Bus tips onto its side in Famagusta

A bus tipped onto its side while going around a roundabout in Famagusta on Friday morning.

The bus was being used for private hire and was seen on its side at the Hurmali roundabout, where the dual carriageway connecting Nicosia and Famagusta ends.

The Turkish Cypriot police explained later on Friday that the bus’ 39-year-old driver had been travelling eastwards on the dual carriageway and had “entered the roundabout carelessly and without slowing down”.

The right-hand side front wheel of the bus then clipped the kerb on the inside of the roundabout, causing the bus to tip onto its left side.

Two passengers, 23-year-old Shahidul Islam and 44-year-old Javaid Javaid, suffered minor injuries, and were taken to the Famagusta hospital as a result. They remain under observation.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
