Melini village, one of the nine honey villages of mountainous Larnaca, will transform into a paradise for both young and old as it hosts the 4th annual Melinio Children’s Festival on September 15, held under the patronage of First Lady Philippa Karsera. Get ready for a day dedicated to children and bees.

A full-day agenda of activities and events will offer free entertainment and crafty fun as well as activities centred around the bee kingdom. From 11am to 7pm, children will get to witness magic shows by the Wizard of the Hive, puppet theatre with Karagiozis and his Melinio spirit, storytelling and interactive fairy tale presentations throughout the day, in both Greek and English, and face painting and a hair salon that will turn young visitors into little bees.

What’s more, festival-goers will have the chance to become beekeepers for a day and journey into the magical world of bees with an educational experience, learning all about honey production from the Cyprus Beekeepers Association.

In true Cypriot festival fashion, the festival will also feature a market with over 30 exhibitors showcasing honey and hive products in an effort to promote the authentic taste of genuine honey produce in the Larnaca region.

“The 4th Melinio Children’s Festival is a unique opportunity for the whole family to escape to the mountains,” say organisers. “Enjoy an unforgettable day full of fun, creativity and education, close to nature. So come along, let’s celebrate the bee and its importance to our environment.”
