Medochemie, the largest pharmaceutical company in Cyprus, is strengthening its commitment to sustainable development, leading the green transition through the utilization of Renewable Energy Sources (RES). With a focus on protecting the environment and aiming to reduce its environmental footprint, Medochemie is continuing to invest in innovative technologies, which minimise environmental impact and significantly contribute to improving the quality of life.
After recent agreements with electricity providers from Photovoltaic Parks, Medochemie will now consume around 12,770,000 kWh of green energy per year, thus reducing the emission of greenhouse gases CO2 into the environment by 8,645,290 kg.
At the same time, Medochemie continues to implement several strategic initiatives and projects in its industrial facilities, which are fully aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Its green actions include extensive waste reduction, recycling and reuse programmes:
1. Photovoltaic park 150KW: This installation achieves the production of 1650 kWh/KW/ of green energy per year and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in the environment by 201.5 tonnes per year.
2. Atmospheric air-cooling system: Innovative system awarded with the Cyprus Innovation Award. It reduces the temperature by 10°C and saves up to 15 per cent of electricity.
3. Energy saving with LED lighting: The use of LED lamps and motion sensors reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
4. Voltage stabilisation systems: By installing these systems, Medochemie reduces thermal losses, to improve efficiency and reduce electricity consumption.
5. Engine inverters: The installation of inverters in all Medochemie manufacturing sites ensures maximum efficiency of cooling systems with lower consumption.
6. “Recycling fish” on the beaches: Medochemie installed innovative plastic recycling solutions on the beaches of Cyprus supporting the culture for the proper use of plastics by recycling and reusing them.
7. Water collection system from air conditioners: Water produced from air cooling systems at Medochemie is recycled for watering seedlings.
With these initiatives, Medochemie is a pioneer in environmental protection, promoting a sustainable future for Cyprus and the planet.
