A 25-year-old woman has been remanded in custody for three days after allegedly robbing and running down an 89-year-old man in Oroklini, Larnaca.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon. According to police, around 2.20pm, officers received a report of the robbery and arrived at the scene to find the elderly man injured outside his home.
The victim told police that the woman, a stranger to him, had stolen his wallet from inside his house. In an attempt to stop her, the man chased her as she fled in her car, but she allegedly struck him with the vehicle before driving away.
The 89-year-old was taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had sustained an injury to his left hip. He remains hospitalised for treatment.
Police were able to trace the woman by identifying her vehicle, which was found parked outside her residence.
Upon questioning, the suspect handed over part of the stolen money. A search of her car led to the discovery of the elderly man’s wallet.
The investigation is ongoing.
