Police on Wednesday are investigating a motorcycle theft involving two men who were arrested overnight and are being held in custody.

According to the police, officers on patrol in Nicosia district around 11pm on Tuesday, noticed the pair driving in a car without registration plates.

When signaled to stop, the driver attempted to evade police, eventually hitting the guardrail and coming to a halt.

The occupants then got out and ran off but officers succeeded in arresting the two men, aged 27 and 30. The 30-year-old suspect had been driving without insurance, MOT, or a drivers’ licence.

In a subsequent check, a motorcycle was found inside the car, as well as a bag containing a pair of pruning shears and an electric drill. Police determined the motorcycle had been stolen earlier from Nicosia.

Pera Chorio police are furthering the investigation.
