Cyprus is seeking to broaden its diplomatic footprint, through contacts with countries it is not in regular communication with, focusing on finding common ground that will prove beneficial to all sides, Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said on Wednesday.
Speaking in New York, Kombos said high level meetings were continuing in the United States, based on three main parameters, namely the Cyprus problem, Cyprus’ candidacy for the UN Human Rights Council and broadening the country’s diplomatic footprint.
Among the meetings in New York, Kombos singled out the two trilateral ones Cyprus and Greece will be having with Egypt and Jordan.
“We are continuing contacts in the framework of the role we are playing in the region and in the context of promoting our candidacy at the Human Rights Council, a candidacy for which elections are scheduled for October 9,” Kombos said.
He added that Cyprus hoped for a good result, which would enable the country to participate for the first time as an elected member to the Council.
