Three youths have been arrested and charged in connection with a fight that took place in Larnaca on Wednesday evening.

They face charges of battery, causing a public disturbance and possession of a weapon. They will appear before a court on November 7 to enter a plea. In the meantime all three have been released, although the eldest – aged 26 – had to pay a €5,000 bond.

Police said that at around 6.40pm on Wednesday they were alerted to a fracas between youths of ‘Arab extraction’ taking place on Athens Avenue in Larnaca, the promenade at Finikoudes Beach.

Police officers arrived at the scene, where they spotted three young men from Syria.

The 26-year-old had sustained injuries to the face, while the other two – both minors – suffered minor abrasions on the skull.

The two minors told police that their fight with the 26-year-old was over a girl. For his part, the 26-year-old claims he saw the two minors stealing from the beach. He started filming them, and when they noticed, they assaulted him.

A knuckle duster was found in the possession of one the minors. As for the 26-year-old, he reportedly struck the minors with a piece of wood.
