An uninsured car driven by a 16-year-old was involved in a traffic accident in Paphos on Tuesday, after which the minor left the scene.

According to Paphos police spokesperson Michalis Nikolaou, the 16-year-old was driving south on Ellados avenue. Under circumstances still under investigation, his vehicle collided with a car driven by a 30-year-old woman leaving a supermarket parking lot.

The minor fled the accident scene, but the car’s registered owner, identified as his father, was located. Investigations are underway to determine how the minor gained access to the vehicle and the causes of the collision, Nikolaou said.

Meanwhile, during a coordinated operation in Paphos aimed at preventing traffic collisions, held from 6am on Tuesday to 6am on Wednesday, police issued 56 traffic fines.

These included one for driving under the influence of alcohol, one for driving under the influence of drugs, and 22 for excessive speeding.

Nikolaou said that coordinated operations to prevent road collisions will continue.
