An exciting weekend lies ahead hosting a variety of artsy markets, festive ballet performances and events. From now until the end of December, there will be more Christmas events than we can count, enriching each weekend with local creativity, music, crafts and traditions.
Of course, a series of Christmas markets are on this weekend – and every other weekend from now on. In Limassol, Poseidonia Beach Hotel hosts a market with a sustainability focus ensuring that all vendors have eco-friendly products in addition to info sessions, talks and activities all about environmentally-friendly practices. The Re-Merry Christmas Market will take place this Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 7pm, with something on for all ages and tastes.
Also happening this weekend but in Oroklini is the Traditional Christmas Market at the Lithos Bar & Grill, open on Friday and Saturday. Over 80 stalls will be set up selling all kinds of creations and festive items while a live music and entertainment programme will be on with activities, Santa visits, street food and mulled wine to sip on.
More markets will fill Sunday’s agenda. The Community of Vavla residents will open their traditional courtyards for a Christmas art bazaar. From 12pm to 7pm a bazaar of local art will be set up with clothing, jewellery, vinyl, crafts, ceramics, local products, food and drinks. Meanwhile, a painting exhibition by local painter Pascalis Anastasi will be open at the school and in the evening, a concert by songwriter Panayotis Loizou will wrap up the event.
The Peyia Christmas Market will also be on this Sunday at the Peyia Municipal Stadium. Stalls selling local arts & crafts, baked goodies, Christmas treats and decorative items will be set up welcoming visitors from 9am to 1pm.
This weekend has more than just festive markets though. In Nicosia, two alternative and exciting events are coming up. One is the Sustainable Roots, Sustainable Future: FHNC Fashion Festival organised by Fashion Heritage Network Cyprus in collaboration with Unficyp. Taking place at Ledra Palace on Saturday, it will offer hands-on workshops, panel discussions, designer pieces and exhibitions to celebrate sustainable fashion, cultural heritage and communities coming together.
On Saturday evening, the Nostalgia Quiz Night will bring some trivia music fun to the iconic Antonakis Music Hall. A nostalgic trivia game will take place testing participants on their knowledge of music, TV, film and pop culture across the ages, from the 50s all the way to the 00s. Think you have what it takes to win? The event welcomes groups for a fun retro evening, in search of the Quiz Champion.
That is not all this weekend has going on. A series of ballet performances are on as well around the island bringing exquisite talents from abroad to local theatres, presenting timeless Christmas classics. The Nutcracker will tour the island this week with upcoming performances in Paphos, Nicosia and Limassol on November 29, 30 and December 1 respectively.
The Grand International Classic Ballet will present Swan Lake to Limassol audiences on December 1 while the Celebrity Christmas Gala will host acclaimed ballet dancers from the international art scene in Limassol on Friday and Saturday in Limassol.
