Projects worth more than €10 million being executed with the support of Opap Cyprus were announced by President Nikos Christodoulides at the betting group’s 55th birthday event in Nicosia.

The projects as part of the group’s corporate social responsibility agenda include the conversion of the Red Cross’ Stella Souliotis children’s treatment centre into a children’s rehabilitation centre, the development and implementation of a day intensive de-addiction programme in the Famagusta district, the creation of a sports centre in Kyperounda and the upgrading of sports centres in Sotira and Frenaros.

“The consistency, responsibility, trust and, above all, the honesty of the overall and long-term actions of Opap Cyprus have contributed decisively to the creation of a solid relationship with Cypriot society and, of course, to the benefit of the state itself,” Christodoulides said.

He said Opap’s goals to put people at the centre of its social policies were aligned with those of the government, especially in the health sector and to promote sporting and cultural programmes.

“The modern equipment and state-of-the-art technologies, with which the services provided by our public hospitals have been significantly upgraded, was aided by the very substantial support of Opap Cyprus,” Christodoulides said.

In addition, he said, a series of other important projects related to energy autonomy would be implemented. These would be announced shortly. One relates to the “first green community” in Cyprus.
