A 70-year-old woman is in intensive care after her apartment in Limassol caught fire on Friday night.

The woman suffered burns to her airway and second-degree burns to her back, and has now been intubated at the Nicosia general hospital.

Her 30-year-old son, who lives in the apartment with her, suffered a superficial burn to his leg and was discharged after being examined by doctors.

The fire broke out at around 8pm on Friday night, with the apartment’s two residents initially being trapped on its balcony but then being rescued by the fire brigade.
