Restoration work at the Saint George church in the Karpas peninsula village of Flamoudi has been completed, technical committee for cultural heritage co-chairman Sotos Ktoris said on Thursday.

The work was carried out following an architectural study undertaken by Ozge Ozbekoglu and Christos Shiamaris and took place with the supervision of the United Nations Development Programme, with funding from the European Union.

Ktoris said the work was carried out “with the aim of reconciling the past with the future, investing in the vision of a Cyprus which honours its roots, and at the same time builds bridges of peace and reconciliation for future generations”.

Meanwhile, Ktoris’ co-chairman Ali Tuncay on Thursday asked for people from the Larnaca district village of Kalavasos to come forward and inform the committee about the history of the village’s mosque and other stories related to it.

He added that the process of renovating the mosque is nearly complete. Once work is complete at the Kalavasos mosque, conservation work will begin at the mosque in the nearby village of Alaminos.
