Cyprus Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Keve) president Stavros Stavrou is set to deliver a speech addressing key economic and business issues at the chamber’s annual general meeting on Thursday.

The event will be held in Nicosia and will feature a keynote address by the president Nikos Christodoulides.

According to a statement issued by the chamber, Stavrou will outline the chamber’s comprehensive proposals for bolstering the economy and the business sector.

His speech will cover the positive trajectory of the Cypriot economy, buoyed by recent upgrades from international credit rating agencies, and examine “how geopolitical developments, such as the war in Ukraine and the Middle East crisis, impact the business environment”.

Highlighting structural challenges, Stavrou will “address bureaucratic inefficiencies and advocate for modernising state infrastructure”.

Moreover, he will also speak about the need for reforms in the public service, judiciary, local government, and healthcare system, including perspectives on tax restructuring initiatives.

Additionally, he will “propose strategies to mitigate the effects of inflation and high energy costs, stressing the importance of supporting businesses and households”.

The speech will also “critique recent strike actions in the healthcare and private sectors” while examining issues and opportunities in critical areas such as banking, tourism, trade, industry, real estate, investments, and digital transformation.
