Higher numbers of traffic police officers will be out on the street until January 6 in an effort to reduce accidents, the force announced on Tuesday.

Police also called on drivers to be careful and patient when moving around during the holidays.

“Safety checks by members of the police will increase, both on the road network and in crowded areas, to keep the citizens safe and avoid any criminal behaviours,” the police spokesman said.

Police also called on people to be careful with the consumption of alcohol and to abide by the highway code.

“Let us not mark these days of celebration and joy with unpleasant incidents,” he concluded.
