The year 2024 saw a significant shift towards conditions of full employment and 2025 will focus on pension reforms and the cost-of-living allowance, Labour Minister Yiannis Panayiotou said on Tuesday.
Speaking after a labour advisory body meeting, convened at the ministry, Panayiotou said the body reviewed 2024 and set goals for 2025.
“Important steps were taken and much more will be done to create conditions of full employment and cover the increased needs in staffing for the better regulation of the labour market, to improve the adequacy of wages and bring real salaries in line with declared income,” he said.
He added that more would also be done to improve services to the public.
The minister said there were two main goals for 2025, namely pension reforms and CoLA.
Panayiotou said these goals would be achieved through social dialogue within the set timeframes.
Referring to the minimum wage, Panayiotou said a decree would be issued in January 2026. Until then, he added, the preparatory work would be carried out.
