The latest microbiological testing showed no pollution of the waters at Geroskipou beach, therefore it is safe to swim in the area, according to the Municipality of Ierokipia on Monday.

The municipality recalled that it had earlier issued a health warning after the Paphos municipal authority’s sewerage system overflowed near the the beach, resulting in large quantities of sewerage ending up in the sea from Germanias street.

The Ierokipia municipality had taken legal measures against the Paphos district administration (Eoa) and their partner company which operates and maintains the biological wastewater treatment plant.

The problem which has existed for over a decade has reached an unacceptable level, the municipality said in its statement, adding the authority will do “whatever is necessary to hold those responsible to account and defend the […] safety of its residents.”

It called on all competent state services to take all necessary actions to immediately resolve the problem.
