An incident involving the injury of an anti-poaching officer in Nicosia was reported on Thursday.

According to local media, the incident unfolded on Wednesday around 1pm when members of the anti-poaching unit spotted hunters shooting from their vehicle in a prohibited area in Ergates.

The game officers turned on their headlights and signalled for the hunters to stop for a check but in response the later sped up, ramming into the official vehicle in the course of their escape.

A 10-minute-long chase ensued but the officers were unable to halt the poachers who managed to escape through the village streets.

Later one of the suspects was located and charged in writing, while a game officers received hospital treatment for a minor injuries sustained in the course events.
