The Uefa Europa League and Europa Conference League trophies will both be on display in Cyprus on Thursday.

Greek gambling company Stoiximan, a sponsor of Uefa, announced that the trophies will be on display at the Mall of Cyprus in Nicosia between 1pm and 6.30pm, with visitors to the mall “having the opportunity to admire the emblematic trophies up close and capture the moment through photographs and videos”.

The announcement said the trophies’ presence in Cyprus will “strengthen fans’ connection with European football, bringing the atmosphere and brilliance of the two competitions in Cyprus”.

The trophies’ presence on the island will coincide with all three Cypriot teams which remain in the Conference League playing in the second legs of the competition’s knockout phase playoff on Thursday night.

Pafos FC and Omonia are set to face off against each other at Limassol’s Alphamega Stadium, with the tie finely balanced after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Nicosia’s GSP Stadium last week.

Meanwhile, Apoel will face Slovenian champions Celje at the GSP Stadium but will have to do so without Georgian centre-half Lasha Dvali, who was sent off in last week’s 2-2 draw in northeastern Slovenia.

There are no Cypriot sides remaining in the Europa League, but eye-catching Thursday night fixtures include four-time Champions League winners Ajax hosting Belgian champions Union Saint-Gilloise and two-time Champions League winners Porto hosting Italian giants Roma.

Meanwhile, Thessaloniki-based outfit Paok will face Romanian giants Steaua Bucharest in Bucharest, while Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce will travel to Belgium to play Anderlecht, and their archrivals Galatasaray will host Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in Istanbul.

This year’s Europa League final will be played at the New San Mames Stadium in the Spanish Basque city of Bilbao on May 21, while the Conference League final will take place a week later on May 28 at the Wroclaw Stadium in the Polish city of Wroclaw.

Thursday will be the second time the Conference League trophy has travelled to Cyprus this football season, with the trophy having been exhibited in Nicosia in September alongside the Uefa Youth League trophy as part of a ‘trophy tour’ organised by Greek club Olympiacos, which won both trophies last season.

Olympiacos won the Europa Conference League – their first ever European trophy – in May last year by beating Italian side Fiorentina 1-0 after extra time at the Agia Sophia Stadium in Athens, the home of arch-rivals Aek Athens.

Last season’s Europa League was won by Italian side Atalanta, who beat German champions Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium last May to claim their first ever European trophy.
