Ciner Shipping, the largest Turkish shipping company by fleet size, has decided to relocate its operations from Turkey to Greece to better manage its human resources.
The CEO of Ciner Ship Management, Vasilis Papakalodoukas, stated that the company aims to benefit from Athens’ extensive talent pool.
The decision has been widely reported by Turkish financial news outlets and Turkiye Today, which highlighted that Papakalodoukas had broken his silence regarding the move.
He explained that the company sought to take advantage of Greece’s abundant human capital and regional advantages.
Papakalodoukas’ comments were originally made in an interview with the maritime news agency TradeWinds, which was later picked up by Turkish media.
Reports from Turkish outlets on February 21 indicated that employees at the company’s Istanbul headquarters had been informed that their contracts would be terminated, though no official explanation was provided.
This development follows Ciner Group’s sale of its entire stake in Turkish media outlets Haberturk, Show TV, and Bloomberg HT to Turkish conglomerate Can Holding in December 2024.
