The annual exhibition LefkArt VII is back, showcasing the creations of students inspired by Lefkara embroidery. Opening this Friday at the Larnaca Archives – Phoivos Stavrides, the exhibition features various types of artworks the starting point of which was the famous Lefkaritika.

The exhibition is part of The Lefkara Embroidery – Source of Inspiration programme during which students and teachers attended seminars on the historical evolution of Lefkara embroidery. Not only that, the seminars also touched on the Lefkaritiko technique, and the endless possibilities of incorporating the embroidery elements in applied arts. Following the end of the programme, the students are encouraged to create their own works of art with all they have learnt, which the basis of this exhibition in Larnaca until March 21.

Presented by the Larnaca Cultural Foundation for Children and Youth and Larnaca Archives – Phoivos Stavrides, LefkArt VII is organised with the support from the ministry of culture and the ministry of education under the auspices of the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO.

What stands out for this year’s exhibition is that 25 participants from 18 schools in every district in Cyprus participated, resulting in a truly unique and contemporary look at Lefkara embroidery in applied arts.
