The International Labour Organisation (ILO) Tripartite Technical Committee, which recently met in Geneva, stressed the importance of preventing and resolving labour disputes to maintain healthy labour relations.

Held from February 17 to 21, 2025, the event saw the participation of approximately 80 representatives from governments, employers, and workers.

The federation of employers and industrialists (Oev) announced on Thursday that Giorgos Hadzjikallis, their Senior Officer for Industrial Relations and Social Policy Department, was chosen from numerous candidates worldwide to represent employers at the ILO committee on ‘Prevention and resolution of labour disputes’.

This selection highlights his significant role and the federation’s influence in shaping global labour policies.

Throughout the discussions, participants examined the challenges and opportunities within national contexts concerning access to justice.

These deliberations emphasised that effective prevention and resolution strategies are vital for sustaining healthy labour relations.

Following intensive negotiations, the committee adopted a set of recommendations aimed at bolstering the rule of law and social dialogue.

These include promoting good faith cooperation among stakeholders, respecting and implementing the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, and strengthening institutions and mechanisms dedicated to resolving labour disputes.

Additionally, the recommendations stress the importance of ensuring equality and non-discrimination in accessing justice, as well as safeguarding the rights of workers and their families.

Concluding the statement, the federation noted that “Oev plays a pivotal role in international labour relations developments, actively contributing to policy formulations that foster a stable, fair, and productive work environment.”

Furthermore, “By participating in this significant international process, it reaffirms its status as a credible social partner advocating for solutions based on dialogue and cooperation between employers and workers.”

“Its ongoing presence in high-level international forums like the ILO Technical Committees amplifies the voice of Cyprus’ employers and ensures their perspectives are considered in global policies,” the federation concluded.
