Vehicle registrations in Cyprus saw a significant decrease in February 2025, with total registrations dropping 13.6 per cent to 3,757, down from 4,346 in February 2024, according to Monday’s report from the statistical service.

Passenger saloon car registrations experienced a sharper decline, falling by 15.5 per cent to 2,908 from 3,443 the previous year.

According to the report, for the January-February 2025 period, total vehicle registrations decreased by 8.8 per cent to 7,834, compared to 8,589 during the same period in 2024.

Among these, saloon car registrations dropped by 11.5 per cent to 6,084 from 6,873, with 46.8 per cent (2,849) being new cars and 53.2 per cent (3,235) being used.

What is more, rental vehicle registrations saw a 9.7 per cent increase to 555.

Petrol-powered saloon cars accounted for 41.6 per cent of total saloon registrations, a decrease from 50.3 per cent in the previous year, while diesel-powered cars fell to 9.2 per cent from 10.4 per cent.

Conversely, registrations of electric vehicles and hybrids saw increases, rising to 5.3 per cent and 43.9 per cent from 3.1 per cent and 36.3 per cent respectively.

Bus registrations plummeted, with only 20 registered in the January-February 2025 period, down from 59 in 2024.

Moreover, cargo vehicle registrations also saw a downturn, decreasing by 5.3 per cent to 915 from 966.

Specifically, light trucks rose slightly by 1 per cent to 773, whereas heavy trucks fell by 12.7 per cent to 89, and road tractors (trailers) dropped by 15.2 per cent to 28.

Motorcycle registrations also varied notably. Registrations for motorcycles under 50 cc fell to 49 in the January-February 2025 period, down from 92 in the same period in 2024.

Conversely, registrations for motorcycles over 50 cc saw a significant increase of 36.6 per cent, rising to 661 from 484 during the same period in 2024.
