“Every day, millions of women fight a silent battle,” say organisers of an upcoming art exhibition that seeks to raise awareness about endometriosis. “A battle with their bodies, with pain, with uncertainty, with the unseen side of a condition that accompanies them without always being recognised. Endometriosis is not just a medical term. It is a daily reality.”
The exhibition Endometriosis Meets Art: The Yellow Ribbon Unwind is set to open on Friday at the University of Cyprus aiming to bridge artistic expression and awareness. The exhibition will be unveiled in the Lobby of the Senate Council Building Anastasios G. Leventis at 6pm presenting the works of a group of artists.
Twenty-one established and emerging artists visually explore endometriosis and the female body, offering their perspectives through works that engage with both the timeless nature of the condition and its impact on modern life. Through diverse media and techniques – painting, sculpture, installations and mixed media – the exhibition seeks to illuminate the unseen side of a condition that affects the lives of millions of women. It creates a space for dialogue between art, the body and experience, highlighting the physical, emotional and social dimensions of the issue.
The event falls within the EndoMarch Cyprus 2025 campaign throughout the month to educate and offer support to women living with endometriosis. Besides the exhibition, a talk will also take place on March 31 at the University where Dr Andreas Stavroulis will discuss the importance of early diagnosis at the It Starts Early – The Only Prevention is Early Detection event at noon.
The exhibition will feature opening remarks from the health minister and the University of Cyprus rector. Stavroulis, President of Endomarch Cyprus, will share insights and valuable information on endometriosis.
Visual artist Katerina Stavrou will present the concept and creative process behind each work, while Eleni Koumparou will provide a musical accompaniment for the evening, performing classical piano masterpieces that will resonate with and enrich this journey.
“Because art can bring light where there is darkness,” conclude organisers, “a bridge where there is distance, and an opportunity to see differently what we once overlooked. Sometimes, that shift in perspective is enough to spark change.”
Participating in the exhibition are the artists Avraam Chirodontis, Andreas Stylianou, Athina Antoniadou, Alexandros Giorkatzis, Antonis Tziaridis, Afroditi Avraamides, Daphne Arvaniti, Dimitris Agapiou, Elena Anastasiou, Elena Daniil, Katerina Stavrou, Lia Lapithi, Maria Savva, Mikela Psara, Miriam McConnon, Paris Sergiou, Stella Issa, Tzouli Michail, Tonia Theodorou and Nikolas Markantonis.
