An extra Easter allowance for low-income pensioners was approved by the council of ministers on Monday, amounting to €3.3 million, the welfare deputy minister said.
“This decision helps more than 11,000 beneficiaries,” minister Marilena Evangelou said.
The allowance has increased by 30 per cent from 2024 compared to previous years and amounts to €250, from €190.
The allowance is granted to single households with an annual income of up to €7,000 and to two-person households with an annual income that does not exceed €12,000.
“The income limit is adjusted upwards depending on the household, it raises by €2,100 for each dependent individual, under 14 years of age and by €3,500 for each dependent person over 14 years of age,” Evangelou said.
The allowance will be paid via bank transfer to all the beneficiaries’ accounts on April 16.
