The public works department announced the signing of a contract for the creation of further bus lanes and bicycle lanes in Limassol.

According to the announcement, these are to be constructed on Nikos and Despinas Pattihi Avenue, as part of the city’s sustainable urban mobility plan, and the contract was signed on Monday between Public Works Director Eleftherios Eleftheriou and the contracting company Cyfield Construction Limited.

The project aims to promote use of public transport through multimodal interconnections at the city’s local hubs, the announcement said.

Among other things, the works include road surface improvement, bus lanes and bus stops, bicycle lanes and supporting infrastructure, roadside parking, upgrading of pavements and controlled crossings, including ‘Pelican’ and ‘Zebra’ installations, and new traffic lights.

The award was made following an open tender and the cost of the contract amounts to €2,855,000 plus VAT. The expected completion time is nine months.

The project is funded by the European Union’s recovery and resilience plan with allocation towards implementation of sustainable urban mobility projects (SUMP) and accessibility-enhancing measures.
