A 19-year-old British national suffered a cut to his eyebrow by falling over while being arrested after attempting to start a fight in Ayia Napa, the police said on Friday.

The incident occurred at around 2am, with the police saying the man was approached by officers after trying to attack passersby.

They attempted to arrest him on suspicion of public intoxication and breaching the peace, but he resisted, then losing his balance, falling to the ground, and cutting his eyebrow.

As a result of his injury, he was taken to the Famagusta general hospital in Paralimni, where he was treated, and then discharged.

He was then taken into custody, where he remains.
