Two young men, aged 25 and 20, have been arrested following a dramatic car chase through the streets of Limassol on Friday night, which resulted in multiple collisions, warning shots from police, and a suspicious vehicle fire.

According to Limassol police, the incident began around 9.30pm during routine traffic checks. Officers from the traffic department attempted to stop a suspicious car travelling at 110 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The vehicle had no number plates and heavily tinted windows.

When signalled to stop, the driver allegedly swerved towards an officer and sped off. Police said the driver continued to flee at high speed, ignoring traffic signs, failing to stop at junctions, and driving dangerously and recklessly.

During the pursuit, officers fired warning shots to stop the car. At one point, the vehicle reportedly collided with three other cars, including a police patrol vehicle, yet the driver continued fleeing, this time into the opposite lane and later onto the Limassol-Paphos motorway.

All individuals involved in the collisions were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. They received first aid and were later discharged, police confirmed.

Shortly after 10pm, the pursued vehicle was found engulfed in flames in the Ypsonas area. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was started deliberately.

Based on witness testimony and further investigation, police arrested the two suspects under court warrants. Both are now in custody and are expected to appear before a judge.

Limassol’s criminal investigation department and traffic police are continuing their inquiries into the case. Authorities have not confirmed who was behind the wheel during the incident, or whether more arrests are expected.
