A fire that broke out in the early hours of Sunday caused extensive damage to an apartment used as an office in central Larnaca, authorities confirmed.
According to Fire Service spokesman Andreas Kettis, the fire was reported at 3:37am on June 22. Five fully staffed fire engines from Larnaca fire stations responded to the blaze, which erupted on the fourth floor of a residential building on Armenikis Ekklisias Street.
Firefighters used a telescopic aerial ladder and water hoses to tackle the flames, while teams wearing breathing apparatus entered the apartment to contain the fire.
Thanks to swift intervention, adjacent apartments were protected. A thorough inspection of the building confirmed that all neighbouring units were vacant at the time of the incident.
Due to the scale of the fire, additional firefighting personnel were called in from local stations.
The apartment, which was being used as an office by a company, suffered heavy damage to its furnishings, paper materials, and interior paintwork. Police said no one was inside the apartment at the time of the fire, as the individual using the premises is currently abroad.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire will be jointly investigated today by the police, the Fire Service, and the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Services.
