Cyprus and Greece underlined their shared potential to capitalise on new regional opportunities during a business presentations summit held in Athens focusing on Cyprus’ updated tax framework.

The central message of the 2nd Cyprus Business Presentations Summit, held earlier this week, was that economic cooperation between Cyprus and Greece can be expanded, allowing both countries to jointly leverage emerging opportunities in the wider region.

The event brought together institutional stakeholders from Cyprus and Greece, alongside representatives from accounting and legal firms as well as business leaders.

The summit focused on the new changes to Cyprus’ tax system, which came into effect on January 1, 2026.

The new tax framework of Cyprus is simplified, functional and aligned with European Union standards and international economic trends,” said Cypriot Tax Commissioner Soteris Markides.

He delivered a detailed presentation outlining the tax reforms and explaining the tax advantages offered by Cyprus.

In his address, the Secretary General for International Economic Relations and Extroversion of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and president of Enterprise Greece Dimitris Skalkos emphasised the importance of strengthening Cyprus-Greece economic ties.

There are significant opportunities for joint investment initiatives between Cyprus and Greece,” he said.

A message from Cyprus ambassador to Greece Stavros Avgoustides, delivered by embassy commercial counsellor Iosif Kypreos, highlighted the positive trajectory of bilateral economic cooperation.

Economic cooperation between Cyprus and Greece is evolving very positively and there are strong prospects for further strengthening it,” said the ambassador.

The embassy supports every initiative that contributes to deepening this cooperation,” he added.

Addresses were also delivered by Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve) president Stavros Stavrou and Cyprus-Greece Business Association president Iosif Iosif.

They highlighted that economic cooperation between the two countries must become closer to cover new sectors and take advantage of opportunities in the wider region.

Further contributions stressing the need to expand economic cooperation between Cyprus and Greece were made by Invest Cyprus chief executive officer Marios Tannousis, Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus president Odysseas Christodoulou, Cyprus Bar Association president Michalis Vorkas, and Cyprus Investment Funds Association director general Christoforos Ioannou.

What is more, a strategic memorandum of cooperation between Invest Cyprus and Enterprise Greece was renewed during the event, reinforcing institutional collaboration.

The memorandum was signed by Invest Cyprus chief executive officer Marios Tannousis and Enterprise Greece president Dimitrios Skalkos.

This development is not merely a formal renewal of an agreement but a substantive confirmation of our shared commitment to strengthening economic cooperation between Cyprus and Greece,” said ambassador Avgoustides.

Two countries with shared values, common paths and strong historical, cultural and economic ties can and must act as multipliers of opportunities in the wider region,” he added.

“The cooperation between Invest Cyprus and Enterprise Greece is a characteristic example of how strategic alignment between organisations can become a tangible tool for attracting investment, strengthening extroversion and creating new growth prospects,” he continued.

Cyprus and Greece together can achieve greater investment goals for mutual benefit,” said Invest Cyprus chief executive officer Marios Tannousis.

There is a need to renew and expand the memorandum of cooperation due to the major changes taking place in the international economy,” said Enterprise Greece president Skalkos.

The two countries can complement each other to meet the needs and demands of foreign investors,” he added.
